PLANEWEAR: Concept, Naming, Visual Identity, Brand Strategy, Product Design, and Web Site Design
OVERVIEW: The PLANEWEAR story is a long one, so I would encourage anyone interested to visit each of the web sites and read the about us pages. It basically started with a conversation at the dinner table with my wife and children about 5 years ago. It was there that the concept of the SkyBelt was born. I came up with an idea to make fashion belts out of real airplane seatbelt buckles. We then started a sub-brand called Jetbelts, which are the same style of belts but branded with other companies logos. After a couple years of marketing SkyBelts, we came up with an idea for a line of women's bags called Jumpseat. Jumpseat Bags are made with vintage-style airplane seat fabric. Since my wife Jennifer is the driving force behind the success of the bags I came up with the name "Jenny Jumpseat" for her and created an illustration for a charm and key chain. It doesn't stop there, we then started discussing ideas for a line of comfortable baby clothes for travelers. This newborn idea was appropriately named Planewear Apparel, and incorporates fun sayings such as "Chicken or Beef", "Carry-On", and "Early Arrival".
I designed the logo's, web sites, and collateral for all these brands and built an online store called PLANEWEAR where they are all sold. Now the hard part begins... raising awareness worldwide in a struggling industry during a global recession.
